Rutherfordton Elementary School is cradled in the foothills of North Carolina surrounded by beautiful scenery. Located within minutes of Rutherfordton, Lake Lure, Spindale and Tryon (home of the Tryon International Equestrian Center), our state-of-the-art facility has received recognition for the Best New Elementary School Design in the Southeast Region by The Council of Educational Facilities Planners International.

When students enter the building, they become "Rockets" who will "Blast Off to New Heights" in education. Our nurturing and caring teachers immerse students in an environment that is conducive to learning while targeting students' diverse academic needs.Rutherfordton Elementary is a Title I school with a current enrollment of 350 students in Pre-K through fifth grade.

The school has a very active Parent Teacher Organization and Local Advisory Committee that collaborate with the principal, lead teacher, and teachers to provide opportunities and resources for student success. The school also has two Parent Involvement Coordinators who plan many engaging school-wide activities that keep parents informed and involved throughout the year. School personnel, parents, and community volunteers provide invaluable support to both our Reading Buddies Mentoring and Backpack Food programs. Students at Rutherfordton Elementary are given the opportunity to participate in or engage in competition through the following initiatives: Elementary Book Challenge Team, National Spelling Bee Program, AIG Program, Musical Programs, YMCA After-school Program, Carolina Isobots, Peer Helpers, Rocket Running Club, and Book Club. Fifth grade students participate in the G.R.E.A.T program, made possible through a collaboration with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department.

Rutherfordton Elementary also has a strong partnership with the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation which promotes a college fair for third graders and Adopt a College Student program for the older children.
